Moving - practical tips and advice

Moving - practical tips and advice

Finally, the awaited moment has arrived. When you were buying a house from Novisa Development, moving in seemed so distant, but it turns out time has passed very quickly. Today, the renovation is nearing completion, the deadline for moving out of the old apartment has been set, and you are now facing another huge challenge - the move.

Read our article, and surely many things will fall into place in your mind, and you will better prepare yourself for everything.

Preparation

During the renovation, try to appear in the vicinity of your new home as often as possible.
Bring your children and your dog with you and let them explore the area as well.
This will be your new stomping ground for walks, visits to playgrounds, and making use of local amenities.
You might even have the chance to make some new acquaintances.
Since the process of moving can be very stressful, it's worth taking steps beforehand to reduce feelings of fear and uncertainty in your new, unfamiliar surroundings.

Planning

Moving is a challenge for all household members, so it's important to prepare and plan the entire operation properly.
It's best to reserve at least a month for packing, sorting, disassembling furniture, etc.
Don't expect to accomplish everything in just two or four days over the weekend. You'll be surprised how much time all these activities consume.

Mark a date on your calendar by which you must empty the previous apartment, and make a list or mark with tape the items you're leaving behind and those you plan to donate or discard.
Items for donation or sale should be listed on online platforms now so they can be picked up from your current home.
Taking them along and finding a "waiting spot" is a waste of time and space.

During the move, it often becomes apparent how many things we have at home that we don't actually need and can't remember the last time we used them.

Packing

Start packing with items you don't use daily, such as decorations, seasonal clothing, books, and spare dishes.
These will be the boxes you unpack last, so you can transport them first and, if possible, place them in a finished room, storage closet, or garage - so they won't obstruct furniture moving later on.
Remember to pack by categories and label the boxes.

Take photos - this will make unpacking easier. Before dismantling larger furniture, document how they look as a whole.
The same applies to complex cable systems - take photos of how your TV or computer is connected.

Wrap furniture you'll be transporting whole with stretch film or protect edges with cardboard taped shut.
This will prevent damage and accidental opening of doors or drawers while moving.

Remove shelves from cabinets and pack them separately to prevent them from falling during carrying.

Empty cabinets - documents or books are really heavy, so don't leave them in the cabinet thinking you'll move them as is, as it will likely result in rushed unpacking.

In the last few days of packing, gather items you use most frequently - these will be the first to unpack.

Pack essential items for immediate use in a bag or suitcase as if you were packing for a short trip. It's important to have cosmetics or a few outfits on hand in case everything takes longer, and you need to get yourself and your family ready for work or school without having fully unpacked yet.

Also, pack cleaning supplies in a separate box and make sure they don't get misplaced.
Dust cloths or cleaning solution will be needed immediately after moving in before you start arranging things in and on cabinets.

Transportation

Regardless of whether you choose to move using your own car, a rented van or trailer, or hire a moving company, it's important to transport everything in the right order.
Think about what will go in each room.
Start by moving furniture, as it will be the most difficult to carry and fit into rooms.
Make sure boxes of clothes don't block space.
Whenever possible, arrange boxes and bags in the appropriate rooms right away.
It will be harder to navigate and start unpacking when all the items are dumped in the living room or hallway.
This way, you'll be able to start organizing specific rooms right away.

Moving is a challenge, but it's usually accompanied by positive emotions such as excitement and a sense of fulfilling a dream.
It will require some sacrifices and a decrease in the comfort of daily life for a month or two, but when you finally unpack the last glass and hang the final picture on the wall, you will undoubtedly feel immense joy and satisfaction.
