What does everyday life look like here, surrounded by greenery and tranquility? Let’s step into this reality for a moment…

Morning in the New Home

7:00 AM. The alarm went off a few minutes ago, but I stayed in bed for a moment, listening to the sounds from downstairs. Zuzia’s laughter and Marcin’s muffled voice—he’s probably explaining to her why a fried egg is the best breakfast. Smiling, I turned to the other side and stretched. The room was still dark—October has that grayness that makes staying in bed all too tempting.

The marathon. I remembered the goal I set for myself months ago. “Do it for yourself,” I repeated in my mind. Running helps me unwind, but today, I don’t feel like it. Still, it’s time to get up. I promised myself I would push through.

I turned on the light in the bathroom. My eyes slowly adjusted to the brightness as I looked at my reflection in the mirror. Having my own bathroom in the bedroom—such a luxury. No sudden intrusions with a loud “Mom, I need to pee!” And honestly, having my own walk-in closet is a game changer, too. I thought back to my student years—renting a tiny room, crammed with clothes, costumes, and a mannequin. I could barely move. Now? Space and order. Adulthood can be quite enjoyable.

I changed into my workout clothes, which I had laid out the night before. Passing by Zuzia’s room, I peeked through the slightly open door. No blanket in sight, as always. She had probably wrapped herself up like a mummy and snuck into our bed in the early morning. Was her blanket there now? Most likely.

I paused for a moment in the doorway, thinking about how fast she was growing. One day, she’d surely want to move into the second bedroom upstairs—the one with a walk-in closet of her own. I wondered if she’d love clothes as much as I do. If that happened, the room next to ours would be perfect for a younger sibling. Zuzia was already five, and we had truly settled in here—everything was in its place, our home, our life. Maybe it was time to revisit the conversation about giving her a sibling? I smiled at the thought and headed toward the stairs.

The moment I stepped onto the first stair, the smell of pesto toast hit me. Wonderful. Marcin’s latest discovery.

In the living room, Zuzia was sitting on the couch, glued to her phone.

-Mom, I’m looking for a recipe!" she shouted the second I took the device from her.

I instantly remembered how Marcin had dodged making dinner last night, claiming he was “looking for a recipe” on YouTube. Kids absorb everything like sponges.

Marcin glanced at me from behind the stove, where he was frying eggs. The moment our eyes met, he was already defending himself.
-I gave it to her for just five minutes, I swear!

I laughed, handed Zuzia her phone back, and pulled her in for a hug.

-I’m off. That marathon won’t run itself.

Through the large living room windows, I could see wet trees and fog. Bobrowiec in autumn is magical, but today, that magic was working against me. I didn’t feel like running. For a moment, I thought about the attic room—the empty space with a view of the forest. Kamila and Patryk from 10A turned theirs into a home gym. Why shouldn’t I put a treadmill there? In winter, I could run in the warmth, looking out at the forest through the huge window. Yes, I have to do this.

As I passed my office, I caught a glimpse of something under the door—colorful feathers. Brus. I suddenly remembered that my mouse pad was still drying on the radiator after that little troublemaker spilled my tea yesterday. Just then, as if summoned by my thoughts, the cat darted out of the bathroom with his usual post-litter-box enthusiasm. He slid around the corner, as always, and dashed toward the living room. “Little chubby troublemaker,” I muttered with a smile

Work. I had a call at 10:00. I still hadn’t finished one task that was holding up the rest of the team. I needed to take care of it. Maybe running would help? It always did. Cleared my mind. Eased my stress.

I opened the door and felt the cool, damp air. I took a deep breath. Bobrowiec. Wille przy Lesie. My place on earth. Once, I wouldn’t have even dreamed of a life like this. Now, I know—I am home.
