How to arrange a child's room at any age - Part II

The older our child gets, the greater their need for autonomy and individuality becomes. Their own room turns into a sanctuary covered with posters and filled with serious conversations with friends. We will help you and your child arrange their own corner where they will feel truly special!

Student

Around the age of 5, a child becomes increasingly individual and starts comparing themselves and their immediate surroundings with peers, so they will surely want to have more influence on the look of their room.
As a parent, take care of the essential aspects, and then let the child give their room its own character and style.

Invest in a desk and a comfortable ergonomic chair.
Your little one will spend more time at the desk doing homework and, probably, playing online games with friends.

Ensure that the desk is large enough with places to store all the important items that should always be within reach.

As a school-aged child, they will start accumulating more blocks, books, and board games, which, in turn, need space.

At this point, you can replace toy baskets with shelves and cabinets.
The latest action figures from their favorite show or neatly arranged LEGO sets must have an honorable place on the shelf.

At this age, the child's first interests emerge, so it's worth enabling them to develop their passions and incorporating them into the design and furnishing of the room.

Teenager

A teenager will surely not hesitate to tell their parents what they currently need, so designing a room for them may seem easier.
Just like with a child of any age, it's essential to prioritize health and comfort.

A teenager will spend more time in front of the computer, both for entertainment and learning.
Therefore, it's worth investing in a large, sturdy desk, preferably with adjustable height, and a comfortable chair that takes care of their young, rapidly growing body.

Ample storage space, a personal wardrobe with a large mirror, and lockable cabinets will give the teenager a sense of privacy and individuality, which they currently crave.

Create a space for relaxation and gatherings with friends.
Place an additional table where your child can keep snacks or board games.
Invest in comfortable chairs or large beanbag-type poufs for listening to music or having casual conversations with friends.

An alternative or comfortable addition to such a relaxation zone could be a thick carpet or flat floor cushions.
Especially during social gatherings, the floor suddenly becomes the most comfortable seating area.

Here, too, it's important to consider diffused lighting from various sources.
Teenagers spend a lot of time in their rooms, studying, exercising, and relaxing.
The main light source should be bright with moderate intensity, while additional desk or bedside lamps should have adjustable temperature and light intensity.

Place your child's desk by the window to maximize their exposure to natural, healthy light.
Our homes have large windows, allowing sunlight to freely enter the room for most of the day.
