Home office – how to prepare for working from home?

21 October 2025

Remote work has become an everyday reality for millions of Poles. When choosing a new apartment or house, we increasingly pay attention not only to the size, garden, or location, but also to whether there’s a space suitable for working from home.Observing these changes, Novisa Development has been designing its investments for several years to ensure that residents can comfortably work from home. In many projects – such as Arkady Walendów – a home office has been planned on the ground floor, while in others – such as Osiedle Słoneczne in Sulejówek – there’s an additional room that can be arranged freely, perfect as a home office.

In this article, you’ll learn:
1. Where to set up a home office?
2. How to position your desk in relation to a window?
3. What kind of desk and chair to buy for remote work?
4. How to take care of your health while working remotely?
5. How Novisa supports comfortable remote work?

Where to set up a home office?

Ideally, you can dedicate a separate room for your office. This helps maintain focus and separate professional life from home life. However, not everyone has that luxury — in that case, it’s worth creating a small workspace in the living room, bedroom, or attic.

To separate this area in a subtle way, you can use a bookshelf, tall potted plants, or a stylish folding screen. These are simple ways to define boundaries and add character to your interior. You can find more ideas in our article – Non-invasive ways to separate spaces in your home.

It’s important to keep your workspace tidy – scattered toys, piles of clothes, or dirty dishes within sight can easily distract you and lower your productivity.

How to position your desk in relation to a window?

The best way to position your desk is so that light comes from the side – from the left for right-handed people and from the right for left-handed people. This helps avoid glare on the monitor and eye strain.

If your workspace is in a shared area such as a living room or bedroom, try not to sit facing the entire room – this helps minimize distractions.

What desk and chair to buy for remote work?

The standard height of a classic desk is about 74–76 cm, which works well for an average adult. However, if you plan to spend long hours working from home, consider investing in a height-adjustable desk, which allows you to work both sitting and standing. Although they are more expensive, you can find used ones in great condition on online marketplaces (e.g., OLX) or Facebook groups. Such a desk can be perfectly adjusted to your height and work style.

Equally important is a good office chair – if you spend many hours at your computer, neglecting to invest in a comfortable, ergonomic chair can harm your spine and overall well-being. Don’t use dining chairs or lounge armchairs, and definitely don’t work from bed. A good chair should support your lower back, allow seat and backrest height adjustment, and provide stable and comfortable posture throughout the day.

How to take care of your health while working remotely?

It’s easy to lose track of time when working remotely. We often sit for hours without a break, which leads to tension and muscle pain. The so-called “posterior chain” – the muscles of the neck, back, glutes, and hamstrings – suffers the most.

That’s why it’s a good idea to set a timer or reminder every hour to do a short set of exercises:

– raise your arms and stretch upwards,

– roll your shoulders a few times,

– stand up, do a few bends and squats,

– walk around your apartment.

Remember to stay hydrated – it’s best to keep a jug or bottle of water nearby and drink at least 1–1.5 liters over an eight-hour workday.

Don’t forget about your eyes. Staring at a screen for hours causes fatigue and dryness. Every hour, take your eyes off the monitor and look at something distant – preferably natural greenery outside the window. The view of trees, meadows, or a park helps your eyes rest and improves your mood.

It’s also worth maintaining routine and mental comfort. Remote work doesn’t mean you can spend the whole day in pajamas. Get up in the morning, take a shower, get dressed, and prepare for work – just as if you were going to the office. Small rituals like making your bed or brushing your teeth help you “activate” and boost motivation for the day.

Instead of scrolling through social media during breaks, go out to the balcony or garden if you have one. Even a few minutes of fresh air can help you relax and recharge.
