New Year’s Resolutions – How to prepare a home workout space

Weight loss and improving health are indeed one of the most popular New Year’s resolutions.
How about yours?

In this article, we’ll give you tips on how to help yourself achieve your goal through proper preparation of a workout area.

 

 

Equipment

Whether you want to start strength training or focus on flexibility, you’ll need some equipment.

Prepare by considering what you want to achieve and which parts of your body you plan to target.
Don’t spend a fortune on professional machines right away; start small.
Invest in a workout mat for the floor, dumbbells or kettlebells, or resistance bands.

Also, remember the importance of proper recovery.
Purchase a set of foam rollers for various body parts to ease your muscles after exertion.

An appropriate place in the apartment

Motivate yourself for regular exercise – designate a specific space, preferably quiet and undisturbed, to avoid interruptions during your workout.
The excellent option would be to designate one room for a gym (or combine the office with the gym).
In our three, four, or five-bedroom houses, you can confidently convert one of the bedrooms into an exercise and hobby space.

If possible, exercise in front of a mirror – it helps maintain proper form during training and allows you to notice and correct any potential mistakes.

A mirror also serves as motivation and stimulation.
Watching your strength, flexibility, or the ability to hold challenging yoga poses improve can be highly satisfying.

Lighting

Appropriately chosen lighting sets the mood, so pay attention to the illumination of your workout space.

Bright, intense light, preferably natural daylight, is conducive to strength training or exercises requiring precision and accuracy.

If you’re planning strength training, avoid working out under relaxing yellow light from lamps or a fireplace, as it might lead to quick discouragement.

Furthermore, by choosing a house with a garden, you have an additional private space for outdoor exercises!

It’s a bit different when it comes to relaxation training or gentle stretching.
Incorporate pleasant nature sounds and observe in the mirror, under soft warm light, how your body progresses and becomes more flexible through regular exercises.

Music

Let music accompany you as often as possible.
Besides diverting your attention from fatigue and increasing the pleasure of your workout, listening to music during exercise has many other benefits.
Energetic tunes with a fast tempo can help you stay in an energized state and make it easier to maintain a steady pace and rhythm.

Music can also aid in controlling your breathing rhythm during exercises, which is particularly important for breath-focused workouts like yoga or Pilates.

Technology

Don’t hesitate to embrace technology.
Utilize apps or online platforms for home workouts.
There are many available programs, and many of them are free, covering various workout styles, from yoga to high-intensity interval training (HIIT).
